Molly Mac typically races at Class 6, which is the entry-level tier of British racing — the kind of race where young, unproven horses find their feet. She has run six times at that level without winning, which is admittedly a modest record, but two-year-olds are still learning what the game is all about, and consistency in the places at any level counts for something. She hasn't been embarrassing herself; she's been there or thereabouts.

She comes into her next race returning from a break of roughly three months — about 104 days off. That kind of absence can mean anything from a minor setback to simply being given time to grow and develop, which is entirely normal for a young horse still filling out physically. Trainers Julia and Shelley Birkett, based at Newmarket — Britain's most famous racing town — have had 18 winners this season, so this is a yard that clearly knows how to get horses to the track ready to perform. If they've given Molly Mac time off and are bringing her back now, there's reason to think she returns fresh and ready.

The win is still to come. But for a two-year-old still finding her stride, trained by a yard in good form, and with placed finishes already on the board, Molly Mac is a horse worth keeping an eye on.
