John Ryan operates out of Newmarket, the spiritual home of British flat racing, and his yard has sent out 12 winners already this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get a horse ready to perform. Millie's A Minx, racing just yesterday, hasn't yet found a way to translate that support into results, but the fact that she ran so recently suggests the team still believes there's something to work with.

Zero wins and zero places from three races is a tough record to dress up, and at four years old the window for improvement is real but not unlimited. She is not a lost cause — plenty of horses take time to click — but she will need to find a gear she hasn't shown yet. The next run will be worth watching, simply to see whether yesterday's outing has taught her anything.
