What works in Militzie's favour is who is doing the searching. Stuart Williams, based out of Newmarket — the heartland of British flat racing — has been in fine form this season, sending out 69 winners from his yard. That is a serious number, and it tells you this is a trainer who knows how to get horses winning. When a yard is operating at that level, it tends to mean they have a good read on where each horse fits and when its moment might come. Militzie hasn't found that moment yet, but it is hard to argue the horse is being mismanaged.

Three-year-olds can be a work in progress at the best of times, still maturing and still learning what racing actually asks of them. The form figures are heading in the wrong direction for now, but with an active trainer in good shape and another run presumably not far away, the next few weeks will be telling.
