Mighty Danu

What's encouraging is that Mighty Danu shows clear form at a mile and seven furlongs, the distance where it has won once from three attempts, a rate of roughly one in three. That's the level where the horse has a genuine engine. Over other distances it has struggled to find the same gear. Trained by Gavin Cromwell at Navan, the yard has sent out 96 winners this season alone, which speaks to the quality of horsemanship there, though Mighty Danu's thirteen-month drought since that Galway success suggests the horse may be working harder than its yard would like.

At three years old, there is time for improvement and opportunity ahead, but the window is narrowing for a horse that won its maiden race nearly eighteen months ago and hasn't managed to build on that start. The recent form is a concern—fourth from bottom last time is not the trajectory any trainer wants to see. If Mighty Danu can get back to that mile-to-seven-furlong sweet spot under Cromwell's eye, it may yet deliver a second win.
