Her recent form tells a more encouraging story, though. Looking at her last six races in order — seventh, sixth, sixth, fourth, third, first — that is a horse gradually working her way up through the field until finally breaking through. It reads like a horse coming into form at exactly the right moment.

One thing worth noting is where she has been running. Most of her races have been at Class 6 level, which is the entry-level tier of British racing, and she has not won at that grade in four attempts. Her win at Carlisle came at a different class of race, which suggests she may simply have needed the right conditions and the right day to show what she can do. The Barron yard has been in decent nick this season — 15 winners already — so she is coming from a team that knows how to place a horse when the moment is right.

Her best distance appears to be between seven furlongs and a mile, where she has won 1 from 8 races at a rate of roughly 1 in every 8 — not explosive, but that is where her solitary win came and where she tends to be most competitive. Regular jockey William Pyle has ridden her in five of those races without a win together, so Carlisle this week may have seen a change of fortunes for that partnership too.

At three years old, she is still developing, and a first career win is always a significant moment — it tells you the ability is there. Whether she can build on it is the question worth following.
