The recent form makes for difficult reading. Over the last six races the finishing positions read 12, pulled up or fell, 11, 10, 10, and 5 — so while that fifth place is the best visible effort in recent memory, it hasn't been backed up. The double-figure finishes suggest Max Meridius has been finding most rivals comfortably too good, and the interrupted run in the sequence adds another layer of uncertainty about where this horse is at physically.
Thomas Mullins trains the horse from his yard in Goresbridge, County Kilkenny. The stable has sent out two winners this season, so it's not a yard short of ability — which makes Max Meridius's continued struggles slightly puzzling. The horse raced just one day ago, so it is very much in active training and the team clearly hasn't given up on finding the right opportunity. Whether that opportunity arrives soon is the question worth watching.
