Master Vintner

Trained by Ralph Beckett at Kimpton, in Hampshire, Master Vintner is part of a yard in excellent form this season with over 100 winners already saddled. His debut victory came at Goodwood in early September 2025, a decent starting point, but his most recent win came just two weeks ago at Thirsk — a sign he's still sharp and actively racing. That said, his last time out, just yesterday, he was beaten, running tenth. It's the kind of reversal that happens to middle-tier horses regularly; the form is streaky rather than consistent. His six most recent races show the reality of where he sits: one win, two places, then a seventh, a thirteenth, and a tenth. He's capable of finishing in the frame, but he's equally capable of having a day where nothing comes right.

The interesting part of Master Vintner's profile is the distance pattern. When he's got the room to settle into a longer race and use his engine over a mile and three-quarters or more, he's genuinely competitive. Over shorter distances, he hasn't yet shown that same class. For a trainer like Beckett, who knows his horses well, that focus on longer races at suitable tracks is probably the key to getting the best out of him — and perhaps to adding to that win tally.
