Master Dandy

Now six years old and trained by Michael Keady out of Newmarket, Master Dandy tends to operate at Class 6 — the bread-and-butter end of the sport, where fields are competitive precisely because horses are closely matched. At that level, winning is harder than it sounds, and Master Dandy has managed it 3 times from 16 starts there, a win rate of around 1 in every 5 races. That is a respectable return, and it tells you this is a horse who performs when the conditions suit rather than one who simply makes up the numbers.

The career got going with a first win at Newcastle in November 2023, and the most recent came at Chelmsford in January 2026 — four months ago now. With Master Dandy having raced just yesterday, the team at Keady's yard are clearly keeping him busy, and the trainer has been in decent form this season, sending out 16 winners. That sort of productivity from a Newmarket base suggests a yard that knows how to place its horses well, and Master Dandy's recent record hints that those decisions are paying off for this particular horse.

The recent sequence of 16th, 7th, 8th, 1st, 2nd, 1st — read from oldest to newest — is actually encouraging. The two poorest efforts came first, and since then Master Dandy has finished first, second, and first. That is the form of a horse in good nick, one whose trainer has worked out where and when to run him. At six, he is no youngster with potential still to unlock, but he is in the prime years for a horse at this level — experienced enough to know what racing demands, and fit enough to deliver it.
