A single race is barely an introduction. Plenty of horses that go on to win good prizes have started their careers with an unspectacular fourth, still learning what racing is even about. What makes this worth watching is who is looking after her. Ralph Beckett's yard in Kimpton, Hampshire, has sent out 109 winners already this season — that is the kind of output that puts a trainer firmly among the best in the country. Beckett is not a handler who wastes entries, so the fact that Marianita has a run under her belt, just one day ago, suggests the team believes there is more to come.
