Manxman

Put him in a Class 2 race—one of the tier below the absolute elite—and he becomes a different proposition entirely. He has run five times at that level and won none of them. But drop him down, and he can win with the best of them. His most recent victory came at Goodwood in May 2025, over fifteen months ago now, suggesting he may have had a long layoff or has simply found winning harder to come by in recent times. His last six races tell a story of a horse searching for form: a win, a second place, two double-digit finishes, a third, and most recently a fifth.

Robert Havlin, the jockey who rides him most often, has won four of his seven races aboard Manxman—a partnership win rate of 57 percent, which is excellent and hints that the pair understand each other well. He races for Simon and Ed Crisford's Newmarket yard, which has had a productive season with seventy-eight winners to their name. Manxman's first win came at Windsor on 1 July 2023, and he has shown enough consistency since then to keep racing regularly. At six years old, with a proven ability to win in good company, he remains very much an active competitor, though his record at the highest level suggests he may have found his true level just below the absolute top tier.
