Majestic King

The frustration for the yard is that the win now sits four months in the past. Since May, Majestic King has run six times without another victory, though the form line reads 2-4-–-12-2-1, showing that places have come more readily than wins. He finished fourth and twelfth in recent runs before returning to form with a second and a win just days ago, which at least suggests the horse remains competitive. A ten-race career with only one win and five places total is modest, but for a five-year-old still working through the grades, there is nothing here that screams the horse has hit a dead end.

Denis Gerard Hogan's yard at Cloughjordan in County Tipperary is a serious operation—the trainer has already saddled 54 winners this season—so Majestic King is at least in an environment that knows how to win races. Whether the horse can string together another victory and finally build on his breakthrough remains to be seen, but the recent return to the winner's circle after four months away at least keeps that possibility alive.
