For Hobson, adding a horse that has won its only race is exactly the kind of platform a trainer likes to build from — the question now is where Magnifix Du Moulin goes next and whether that debut performance was a sign of things to come.

It is worth keeping an eye on this one simply because a first-time winner tells you very little and everything all at once. One race is too small a sample to draw firm conclusions, but you have to start somewhere, and starting with a win is about as good as it gets.
