The recent form offers little encouragement. Across the last six runs, the best finish was fourth, with fifth places either side of it and two blank runs mixed in. There is no upward curve here, no sign of a horse beginning to click into gear. It raced just one day ago, so at least fitness is not in question — but form very much is.
Jamie Hamilton has stuck with the ride through thick and thin, partnering Mademewhatiam in seven of those 18 races without a single win to show for it. That kind of loyalty is either admirable or simply what happens when a horse keeps getting entries and needs a jockey. At Class 5 — the entry-level tier of British racing, where horses compete who are yet to prove themselves at any higher grade — Mademewhatiam has run ten times and won none of them. Winning at Class 5 is as low a bar as the sport sets, which makes a blank record there genuinely difficult to explain away.
None of this means the horse is without value to those who run it — horses race for all sorts of reasons — but from a purely competitive standpoint, Mademewhatiam remains one of racing's great works in progress, with the emphasis firmly on the waiting.
