The real bright spot in Luminaries' record is Newcastle, where it has developed into a genuine course specialist. Three wins from five races at that track is striking — a 60 per cent win rate — which suggests the horse has found a place where something clicks. Whether it is the track itself, the conditions it happens to encounter there, or simply good luck, Newcastle has been kind to Luminaries in a way few other courses have. By contrast, the horse has won just once in 19 races at Class 5 level, the bread-and-butter tier where most of its racing takes place.

What makes Luminaries interesting now is the partnership with jockey Sean Quinlan. When the two have teamed up, Quinlan has ridden the horse to 3 wins from 10 races — a 30 per cent win rate — which is genuinely strong by comparison to Luminaries' overall record. That gap suggests Quinlan has found a way to get the best from the horse. However, a drought of six consecutive races without a win, capped by a comeback run just yesterday, signals the horse may be hitting harder times. At nine, and with last success coming fourteen months ago in May 2025, Luminaries' best days could be behind it.
