What stands out is her preference for races run over seven furlongs to a mile. At that distance, she has won one of her three attempts, a 33 per cent win rate that is noticeably stronger than her overall record. It is at these middle distances that her the yard appear to believe she will make her mark. She is trained by Richard Hannon at his Herridge yard in Wiltshire, one of the most successful operations in the country — Hannon has sent out 118 winners this season alone, so Lucky Luna is at least learning her craft in a top-class environment.

The gap of three months between her last win in June and her current racing suggests the yard may have taken time to regroup and refocus. With yesterday's race behind her and a clear distance preference now evident, Lucky Luna has room to develop. She is still young, and horses often need time to mature and find the races that suit them best. If Hannon can steer her back to those seven-furlong to mile events where she has shown her best form, she could well add to her tally.
