Lucky Crystal

The recent form makes for difficult reading. Finishing 12th, then 14th, then fourth, then 17th twice — and one run where the result is simply marked as a non-completion — paints a picture of a horse that has had one bright afternoon surrounded by a lot of disappointing ones. That fourth-place finish stands out as the exception, a moment where something briefly clicked, though it wasn't quite enough to get into the winner's enclosure.

Lucky Crystal races out of the Doneraile yard in County Cork, trained by Brendan Maurice Walsh. The stable has sent out three winners this season, so there is clearly ability within the yard — just none of it has filtered through to this particular horse yet. With a race just yesterday, Lucky Crystal is very much an active campaign, and Walsh presumably still believes there is a performance worth waiting for. Whether the horse can find it is the question nobody has been able to answer across six attempts so far.
