What we do know is the breeding. By Linda's Lad out of a Cockney Rebel mare, Luckonthemoor comes from a jumping background on the sire's side — Linda's Lad was a useful staying chaser, so there may be stamina and a preference for obstacles somewhere in this horse's future, though that is a long way off. For now, the debut itself is the story.
The trainer is Joe Tickle, operating out of Stoodleigh in Devon — not one of the big, headline-grabbing yards, but a stable that has been quietly getting on with the job. Twenty winners already this season tells you this is a team that knows what it is doing. When a yard that size sends a horse out for the first time at eight years old, you can be reasonably sure they believe it is ready. Tickle will know this horse better than anyone, and the fact it has made it to the track at all after a long wait suggests they see something worth running.
Debut runners are always a gamble to assess. But with a switched-on yard behind it and a sire that hints at toughness and stamina, Luckonthemoor is worth keeping an eye on.
