Love Sonnet

The career got underway at Killarney in May 2025, and Love Sonnet has barely looked back since. The most recent six races tell the story well: three wins, a second place, and only two unplaced efforts. That kind of consistency is genuinely hard to find, and it suggests a horse that travels well through a season rather than one that burns bright and fades. The last win came at Newbury in December — a proper track, respected across the sport — and while there's been a short break of around six weeks since, that's nothing unusual for a horse being managed carefully through the winter.

The most interesting pattern in the stats is what happens when Love Sonnet is asked to go long. Over two miles or more, the record reads two wins from three attempts — that's winning roughly two out of every three races at that trip. Plenty of horses tolerate distance; Love Sonnet appears to actively thrive on it. The stamina seems genuine rather than accidental, and the yard will almost certainly keep coming back to those longer trips.

Jockey James Davies has been in the saddle for five of these races and won two of them — a 40% win rate together that mirrors the horse's overall figures almost exactly. That kind of continuity between horse and rider matters more than people realise; there's a shorthand that builds over time. Both are part of Tim Vaughan's yard in Aberthin in the Vale of Glamorgan, a stable that has sent out 12 winners already this season and clearly knows how to place its horses well.

Currently running at Class 4 level — the solid, competitive middle ground of British racing — Love Sonnet has won 1 from 3 at that grade. There may well be room to step up in class as the confidence builds. A horse winning 4 from 10 at four years old, with a love of distance and a reliable pilot, is exactly the kind of profile that gets interesting fast.
