The recent form figures — 5, 6, a gap, 5, 10 — tell you a horse that has been running in the middle to back of the pack throughout, with that tenth-place finish the low point so far. One race where Louis Des Landes didn't finish is also in there, which adds another question mark. None of it is encouraging reading, but it is worth noting that he raced just one day ago, so the team clearly still believes there is something worth persisting with.
What does offer some optimism is the yard sending him out from. Joe Tizzard's stable has produced 58 winners already this season — that is a yard operating at a strong clip, and they do not tend to waste time on horses that have nothing to offer. The fact that Louis Des Landes keeps getting a run suggests there is either ability that has not quite clicked yet, or a race type and set of conditions that suits him still to be found. Either way, Tizzard's team will have a clearer picture than the form book currently shows.
