The win itself matters, though. Debut victories are always encouraging, and it came at a proper racecourse rather than against easier company. But the subsequent races suggest Looka may have regressed or simply not progressed as the yard would have hoped. A place in the second run is respectable, but the fifth-place finish raises questions about consistency. For a young horse with just one win from three starts, there's genuine interest in how Looka will return to action after such a long absence. Horses can improve during a break, but they can also lose edge, and seven months is a long time to be away. Marco Botti's Newmarket yard is strong this season — 40 winners speaks for itself — so the trainer clearly believes there is something to work with here. The next race will be telling.
