The one glimmer worth noting is that third-place finish, which at least shows the horse is capable of mixing it with others at the front end of a race. Whether it can convert that into an actual win remains to be seen. Zero wins from three races means Longevity is still searching for that first breakthrough, and younger horses can take time to figure things out — but the recent downward slide in placings will need to reverse before expectations can rise.

What works in Longevity's favour is the yard behind it. Trainer Nigel Tinkler operates out of Langton in North Yorkshire and has sent out 37 winners already this season, which tells you this is a stable that knows how to get horses ready to win. Having a productive trainer in your corner matters — horses from busy, successful yards tend to be well-prepared and placed in races where they have a real chance. If Tinkler spots the right opportunity, Longevity may yet get off the mark.
