The most recent form shows a fourth and a third in its last two completed races, which is at least pointing in the right direction. It raced just three days ago, so it's clearly a horse being kept busy, which can sometimes be a trainer's way of searching for the right opportunity rather than finding it.
The partnership with jockey Mr B J Walsh hasn't cracked the code either — five races together and still waiting for that first win. That's not necessarily a damning stat, more a reflection of where this horse is in its career right now.
What does offer some encouragement is the yard behind it. Trainer P J Rothwell, based in Tinahely in County Wicklow, has sent out 35 winners this season — that's a yard in form, with horses that know how to win. When a trainer is firing in results like that, the hope for an owner is that some of that momentum eventually finds its way to the horse that's still searching. Long Road hasn't got there yet, but it's in the right hands to give it every chance.
