Those are tough numbers to look at. A twenty-fifth place finish suggests a race where Long Reign was well beaten, and the improvement to ninth, while heading in the right direction, still leaves plenty of ground to make up before this horse is troubling the judge. With just two races on the clock, though, it would be premature to write it off entirely — some horses simply take time to find their feet.

The trainer is Marcus Tregoning, a respected handler whose yard has sent out four winners already this season. Tregoning has a reputation for patient, quality horsemanship, so Long Reign remains in capable hands as it looks to turn its early form around.
