At three years old, there is still time for things to click. Horses at this age are still developing, still learning the job, and it is not unusual for a young horse to take a handful of races before it starts to put a performance together. But the recent trend — fifth, ninth, eleventh — is moving in the wrong direction, and that will be a concern for the team.
What does offer some encouragement is the trainer behind the horse. Ollie Sangster, based in Marlborough in Wiltshire, has had 42 winners on the board already this season — a genuinely productive yard by any measure. Sangster clearly knows how to place a horse and get the best out of it, which means Liveinthelight is at least in capable hands. Whether the trainer can find a race that suits and finally unlock something from this horse remains to be seen, but the yard's record suggests they will keep trying until they do.
