Little Soiree

That breakthrough arrived at Huntingdon on 20 May 2025, and it was a long time coming. For a horse of this age to still be finding its way to the winner's enclosure speaks to a certain stubborn persistence — both from the horse and from trainer Olly Williams, who runs a small yard out of Market Rasen in Lincolnshire. Williams has been patient, and early in 2025 he had a clear picture of exactly what conditions he needed to find for her: a race over two miles on better ground. A near-miss at Plumpton around that time — beaten by a head on the line after a mistake at the last fence — suggested the form was there. It just needed the right race to unlock it.

The distance question matters here. At between one mile six furlongs and two miles, Little Soiree has won 1 from 6 races, a 17% win rate that is comfortably the best of any distance band in her career. That's winning roughly one in every six at that trip — which, for a horse with her overall record, is genuinely striking. Get the conditions right and she becomes a different proposition.

The partnership with jockey Rex Dingle hasn't yet produced a win — 0 from 6 together — though that may say more about the difficulty of finding her ideal race than any lack of ability on his part. Most of her racing has come at Class 5 level, where she has won 1 from 10 (10%), and her recent form figures — a 14th and a 6th among her last six outings — are modest. She raced just yesterday, so the yard are clearly keeping her busy.

At eight, she's not getting younger, and the window for finding more days like Huntingdon last May is narrowing. But Olly Williams knows what she needs. If a two-mile race on decent ground comes up, Little Soiree is the kind of horse worth keeping an eye on.
