Little Beck Annie

She runs at Class 5 level, which is the entry point of British racing — the races where horses are finding their feet or, in some cases, finding their limits. Little Beck Annie has gone 0 from 3 at that level, so even at the lowest tier she hasn't been able to get her nose in front. At four years old, she still has time on her side, but the clock isn't standing still either.

She's trained by Peter Niven at his yard in Barton-le-Street, North Yorkshire, and the operation is clearly capable — 12 winners already on the board this season shows a string that knows how to win races. That makes Little Beck Annie something of an outlier in the yard's statistics. She raced just yesterday, so she's clearly fit and active, and Niven is clearly persevering with her. Whether the right race is just around the corner or whether she simply needs more time to develop, the team hasn't given up — and in this game, that counts for something.
