Limestone Red performs best over distances between one mile and three furlongs and one mile and four furlongs—2 wins from 17 races at those trips—and unsurprisingly thrives when the ground is normal rather than soft or firm. Trainer Tracey Collins, who runs a modest operation from The Curragh with four winners sent out this season, has stuck with the horse through a long career. Regular jockey Ronan Whelan has ridden it nine times without a win, suggesting the partnership may not be the key to unlocking further success. For a horse that wins roughly once every seven or eight months, there are no grand ambitions here—just a useful, hardworking animal that occasionally justifies the time invested in it.
