What is worth paying attention to is where Lightkiss is stabled. George Boughey's Newmarket yard has sent out 99 winners this season alone — that is a training operation firing on all cylinders, and horses in that environment tend to be placed in races where they have a genuine chance. A yard that busy and that successful does not carry passengers for long. The fact that Lightkiss raced just yesterday suggests the team believe there is something worth persisting with, and the step forward from sixth to fourth in its two runs hints at a horse that is learning on the job.

Two races is a tiny sample. Plenty of horses that go on to win decent prizes looked ordinary at this stage. For now, Lightkiss is a work in progress — but it is being looked after by one of the sharpest operations in British racing, and that counts for quite a lot.
