The recent form makes for sobering reading. Her last six races have produced finishes of 18th, 6th, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th — working backwards from the most recent. That 4th place is the closest she has come to troubling the judge, and the 6th-place efforts suggest she finds her level somewhere in the middle of the field more often than not. The 18th-place finish on her most recent outing, however, is the kind of performance that raises questions, and it may partly explain why she has been given roughly three months off since then. Whether that break has done her good remains to be seen.
Mr E Finegan has been her regular rider, partnering her in 6 of her 8 races together without a single win between them. That is not necessarily a damning reflection on either horse or jockey — sometimes a combination simply needs things to fall right — but 0 wins from 6 attempts together does mean they head into any future race still searching for their first shared moment of success.
Coming back after a three-month absence adds another layer of uncertainty. Horses can return from a break sharper and refreshed, or they can need a race or two to find their rhythm again. With no wins from 8 career races to draw on, Light Her Up does not have a history of results to reassure anyone that she will hit the ground running. But racing has a habit of surprising people, and a fresh start is at least as likely to help as to hinder.
