The first thing to know about Lifetime Ambition is that he has very strong opinions about the ground he races on. On wet or muddy conditions he has won 2 from 7 races — nearly 1 in 3 — which is a dramatically better record than his overall figures suggest. Doyle has talked openly about this, noting that the horse was simply no good on heavy ground in one winter campaign before coming alive in the spring on better surfaces. That kind of ground sensitivity is not unusual in horses, but it does mean the team has to be patient and selective, waiting for the right conditions rather than running him wherever a race is available.
His most recent win came at Cork in April 2024 — now 26 months ago — and he has not won since, finishing placed in four of his last six races. That is not the form of a horse falling apart; finishing second or third consistently means he is still competitive, still turning up, still running honest races. Jockey Sean O'Keeffe has ridden him in 9 of his races together, winning once, but Doyle has also used Robert Power, who reportedly told the yard after one run over three miles that Lifetime Ambition wanted every yard of it and could be a Grand National horse in the making.
That is a big call, but it fits the picture. Doyle has spoken about him as a horse with genuine long-distance potential, and at 11 he is the right age for a staying chaser to come into his own over the marathon trips those big spring festivals demand. He raced just one day ago, so there is no question of him being on the shelf. Whether the ground comes right, and whether another win is in him, is the open question — but this is a horse his trainer clearly believes in, and the form line suggests there is still something to find.
