Over distances between a mile and three furlongs and a mile and four furlongs, Lesrico has won one race from seven attempts — double his overall win rate. It is at this stretch that something clicks, and trainer Lisa Williamson knows it. Racing him consistently at this distance gives him the best chance, even if one win from seven is hardly a guaranteed formula. His recent form, though, tells a different tale: seventh place a week ago, then eighth before that, with only fleeting moments of promise in between — a second place back in July was his last time in the frame.

Lisa Williamson's Kelsall yard in Cheshire has sent out six winners this season, and Lesrico represents the kind of solid, working horse that keeps a racing operation ticking over. He typically competes at Class 5, the lower tiers where races are decided by smaller margins and horses like him — honest competitors without exceptional talent — can still find their level and occasionally surprise. Ten months without a win is a long drought for any horse, but at six, Lesrico still has time, and his trainer clearly sees enough to keep running him. Whether he finds another winner or simply makes up the numbers, he remains what he has always been: a genuine racehorse with a story that, for now, is still being written.
