The yard has been in fine form this season, sending out 61 winners, and Lawrenny has been a reliable contributor. His partnership with jockey Sean Quinlan is one of the more productive combinations in British jump racing at this level — three wins from eight rides together, winning roughly 1 in every 2.5 races (38%), which is a genuinely impressive return for any horse-and-jockey pairing. When Quinlan is in the saddle and the ground is soft, Lawrenny is a horse worth paying attention to.
Most of his races have come at Class 4 level — not the very top tier, but solid, competitive company — and he has won half of his four races at that grade. His last victory came at Hexham in March 2025, and while that was 14 months ago, he raced just yesterday, so the team clearly has him in good order. His first win, back in March 2024 at Newcastle, set things in motion, and the assistant trainer Alan O'Keeffe has noted that Lawrenny is a horse who learns from experience — after a forgettable run at Leicester on ground that was described as barely fit to race on, he bounced back at Wetherby and showed what he can do under better conditions.
That ability to improve and adapt is perhaps what makes Lawrenny genuinely interesting. He is not flashy, and he is not competing at the sport's highest level — but he is a horse who knows his job, who has a jockey that clearly gets the best out of him, and who, when the rain comes and the ground cuts up, gives his the yard real reason for optimism.
