Langholm

The win rate of 7% — roughly 1 in every 14 races — is modest, but the story is more nuanced than that number suggests. When Connor Beasley takes the ride, which he has done 33 times, that figure climbs to 12%, or 4 wins from 33 races — better than 1 in every 8. All four of Langholm's career wins have come with Beasley aboard, which is not a coincidence. There is clearly an understanding between horse and rider that the statistics bear out. Both are based in the north of England, and trainer Michael Dods at Piercebridge has been in fine form this season, sending out 43 winners — a yard that knows how to place its horses well.

Langholm is at its best over seven furlongs to a mile on normal ground — 4 wins from 34 races at those trips, winning roughly 1 in every 8 or 9 — and the horse has an affinity with Thirsk in particular. Two wins from 10 races there makes it one of the course specialists, and that is the track where the career began with that first win back in April 2022. Horses that return again and again to the same track and keep performing are always worth watching when the entries go up.

The recent form — finishing tenth, thirteenth, and twelfth in its last three races — is admittedly hard to spin. Something has not been clicking lately. But Langholm raced just yesterday and is clearly being kept active, and the last win came as recently as August 2025 at Catterick Bridge, so the ability has not vanished entirely. Most of its wins have come at Class 6 level, which is the entry-level tier of British racing, and that is the company where it can be competitive. Watch for this horse back at Thirsk, over a mile, with Beasley in the saddle — that is when Langholm tends to turn up.
