Lake Como

Trained by George Boughey out of Newmarket, Lake Como is part of one of the most productive yards in Britain right now. Boughey's team has sent out 99 winners this season alone — a remarkable haul that tells you this is a yard that knows how to place its horses in races they can win. Lake Como fits that pattern well.

The horse's two wins have both come on normal ground, going 2 from 4 on that surface — a 50% win rate, which is exceptional. Conditions that suit it clearly transform it into a different animal. The first win came at Newcastle in December, followed by another at Southwell on 28 December 2025, and while the most recent form shows a 7th and a 4th in its last two runs, that dip shouldn't obscure what came before it — back-to-back wins heading into those efforts, and a place in the run immediately before those victories too.

What makes the next chapter interesting is what Boughey said recently. After what he described as a "huge race" at the weekend — one in which Lake Como was carrying extra weight and still ran with credit — he flagged a race at the Guineas Festival meeting over a mile as a potential target, a race restricted to horses rated 0 to 90. That is not a throwaway comment. The Guineas meeting at Newmarket is one of the most prestigious fixtures in the British calendar, and a trainer only points a horse there when he genuinely believes it belongs at that level. It also tells you something about where Boughey sees this horse heading — not a horse to be dropped in easy company, but one he thinks can compete when the quality steps up.

At three years old and with only eight races behind it, Lake Como is still very much a horse in development. But two wins, consistent placing, and a trainer talking confidently about a Guineas meeting target — there is plenty here to watch closely over the months ahead.
