The fourth-place and sixth-place results either side suggest Lake Como is at least competitive and capable of running well in better company. The most recent outing has breathing room: a fresh win is exactly what a horse like this needs.

George Boughey's Newmarket yard is in excellent form this season with 99 winners already, and the trainer clearly has plans for Lake Como's future. On the back of a solid recent run, Boughey is considering stepping the horse up in class to a 0-90 race (one tier down from the top races) over a mile at the Guineas meeting. That distance sits perfectly within Lake Como's sweet spot — the horse has won 1 of 3 races between 7 furlongs and a mile. It is the kind of shrewd positioning that suggests the yard believes there is untapped potential here, and with normal ground conditions in the horse's favour, the next few months could see Lake Como translate its decent form into a meaningful winning run.
