Krak

The recent form tells a familiar story. In its last six races, Krak has picked up three places — three times finishing second or third or fourth — but no wins. That kind of near-miss pattern is both encouraging and frustrating: the horse is competitive enough to get into the frame regularly, but not quite sharp enough to get across the line. When Krak steps up to the top-level races it has contested, the record flattens to three races without a win. This suggests the horse does its best work in slightly easier company.

Jockey J J Slevin has ridden Krak six times and won once — a 17% win rate with the animal, which is better than the horse's overall record, though a single success over six rides is still a small sample. The horse is trained by Dan Skelton, whose Alcester yard has sent out 198 winners this season, so it sits in a powerhouse stable. Skelton's resources and expertise mean Krak is getting the support to produce its best, but results ultimately rest with the horse itself. At this stage of its career, Krak appears to be what it has always been: a consistent runner that occasionally reaches the winner's circle, but one unlikely to dominate any particular level of racing.
