The breeding gives a few clues. The sire, Kodiac, is one of the most reliable sources of fast, precocious young horses in Britain and Ireland — his offspring tend to hit the ground running as two-year-olds rather than needing time to find their feet. The dam's side brings in War Command, another influence associated with early speed. On paper at least, this is a horse built to be sharp from the off.
The trainer, William Durkan, operates out of Sandyford in County Dublin and has sent out 13 winners already this season — a solid return that suggests a yard in decent form and capable of placing its horses well. For a first-time runner, having a trainer who clearly knows how to prepare a horse to win matters more than any stat on a racecard. Whether Kodi Heart is ready to hit the line first first time out remains to be seen, but the building blocks are there.
