There is, however, a pattern worth noting. Knowledge runs best at the mile-and-a-quarter to mile-and-a-half distances, winning one of three races over that range. That 33 per cent win rate at those middle distances is genuinely solid and hints that the horse may be more effective when given time to settle into a race rather than asked to rush. The Crisford yard, based in Newmarket and already boasting 78 winners this season, will be plotting another path back to victory, likely one that plays to those proven strengths.

At just three years old, Knowledge still has plenty of racing ahead, and a single win from six attempts is no disaster at this stage of a horse's career. The challenge now is finding the right race — the right distance, the right opposition, the right conditions — to unlock another success before the current campaign draws to a close.
