What that second place does tell you is that a two-year-old with no racing experience went out and finished in the prize money first time. That is a decent starting point. Plenty of young horses take a run or two just to work out what racing is all about, so coming away with a placing on debut is a reasonable sign there is something there worth developing.
The horse is trained by Jamie Osborne at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, and the yard is in strong form — 47 winners already this season, which suggests a well-run operation that knows how to get horses ready to perform. When a yard is firing on that many cylinders, a lightly raced two-year-old with a debut placing is exactly the kind of horse they will be quietly optimistic about. The next run will tell us considerably more.
