The recent form makes for interesting reading. A third-place finish five races ago hinted at real promise, but since then Klervia has struggled to recapture that level, with an eleventh and a string of mid-field efforts in the mix. Tom Broughton has been the regular partner, riding seven of those nine races together without a win to show for it — a combination that clearly understands each other but hasn't yet cracked the code on how to get Klervia to the front.
What gives reason for cautious optimism is who is doing the saddling. Trainer Fergal O'Brien, based in Withington in Gloucestershire, has sent out 90 winners already this season — a yard firing at a serious rate and clearly in excellent form. When a stable is operating like that, horses in the string tend to benefit from the confidence and organisation that flows through the whole operation. Klervia races at Class 4 level, which sits in the middle tier of British racing — competitive enough that winning isn't easy, but well within reach of a horse with genuine talent. The fact that it raced just yesterday and remains active suggests the team sees no reason to put the brakes on.
The honest truth is that a horse without a win from nine attempts is one that needs something to click. But in a yard producing winners at this kind of volume, that click can come sooner than you'd think.
