That sole victory came at Tramore in Ireland back in December 2021, and it remains the only time he's reached the winner's enclosure in his career. More than four years have passed since then — 53 months, to be precise — and his last six races have produced no wins at all. His recent form shows a pair of fifth-place finishes as the highlights, with a fourth and a ninth also in the mix. He raced just yesterday, so the team at least aren't giving up on him.

He's trained by Georgie Howell, based in Tenbury Wells in Worcestershire, a small yard that has sent out one winner so far this season. His most regular partner in the saddle is Miss M O'Sullivan, who has ridden him in seven of his races and been aboard for his one career win — a record of 1 from 7 together, which works out at wins in roughly 1 in every 7 races as a partnership. That's a better ratio than his overall career average, which suggests they suit each other, even if results have been hard to come by lately.

At nine years old and with just one win to his name, Kingston Kid is what racing people would call a tough horse to place — honest and consistent enough to keep finishing in the frame, but not quite finding that extra gear when it matters most. He's the kind of horse that keeps the yard hopeful without ever quite delivering the moment they're waiting for.
