King's Vanity

The more interesting number is what happens when King's Vanity races at a distance of seven furlongs to a mile. In eight races at that range, it has won twice — that's a 25% win rate, or 1 in every 4 — which is a genuinely strong return and suggests this is very much a horse that needs things set up right for it. Give it the right trip, and it becomes a different proposition.

Both of those wins have come at the lower end of the racing pyramid. King's Vanity has found its best level in Class 5 company — the sort of races where the competition is a step down from the top level — and there it has won 2 of its 5 races, a 40% win rate that stands out sharply. That's a horse that, when the conditions suit, genuinely threatens.

The timing of those wins is worth noting, though. The first came at Lingfield Park in January 2024, and the most recent at Ffos Las in August of the same year — meaning King's Vanity hasn't been back in the winner's enclosure for 20 months. Recent form of 4-9-6-1-13-4 tells its own story: one promising run buried in some inconsistent efforts, and that 13th-place finish in between is the kind of result that tests patience. Trainer Marcus Tregoning's yard has sent out four winners this season, so the operation is ticking over, but King's Vanity has yet to add to that tally.

With a race just yesterday, this is a horse very much in the thick of a campaign. Whether it can rediscover the form that made it so effective at the right trip and level remains the question — but when everything clicks, the record shows King's Vanity genuinely delivers.
