The name suggests a horse with regional pride to defend, but so far he has found life tough. His finishing positions across his four races read 8, 7, 5, 11 — going the wrong way, in other words, with that eleventh-place finish his most recent result. He raced just yesterday, so he is firmly in the thick of his season with questions still to answer.
He competes at Class 5, which is the entry level of British racing — the kind of races where horses are still finding their feet and working out what they are. Even at that level he has not managed to get his nose in front or even into the top three. That is not a disaster for a three-year-old, but it does mean trainer Jedd O'Keeffe will be doing some thinking. O'Keeffe runs a respected yard out of Coverham in North Yorkshire and has sent out 18 winners already this season, so the know-how is there. Whether King Of Yorkshire can tap into it remains to be seen. The trainer clearly has horses in form — the challenge now is unlocking whatever potential sits inside this one.
