King Cherry

At three years old, there is still time for the picture to change. Some horses take a while to work out what is being asked of them, and a racing career is rarely written off this early. King Cherry raced just yesterday, so the team are clearly keeping it busy and looking for the right opportunity.

The trainer is Stuart Williams, one of Newmarket's more productive operators. Newmarket is the heartland of British flat racing — more classic winners have been prepared on its famous gallops than almost anywhere else — and Williams fits the surroundings well. Sixty-seven winners from his yard this season tells you this is not an outfit that sends horses out to make up the numbers. The stable clearly knows how to get horses winning. The question, for now, is whether King Cherry can become one of them.
