What is worth noting is that the form has been heading in the right direction. The most recent two runs both ended in fourth place, which at least suggests some consistency, even if the winner's enclosure remains out of reach for now. Racing just one day ago, Kimbara is clearly a horse in active work and being kept busy by her the yard.
She is trained by Richard Spencer, who operates out of Newmarket — one of the most competitive training centres in the country, where the standard of horse tends to be high and the fields are rarely easy. Spencer's yard has sent out 27 winners this season, which tells you this is a competent, functioning operation that knows how to get a horse ready to run. The fact that Kimbara has not yet broken through is not necessarily a reflection of the quality of the training — some horses simply take longer to mature, and at three years old, there is still time.
The question now is whether a step forward is coming. Three runs in, still searching for a first win or even a placed finish, the pressure is gentle but building.
