Since that debut victory, though, things have gone quieter. Kentucky Rain has raced four times in five weeks, and the results tell a mixed story: a fourth-place finish, then a win at Beverley, followed by two near-misses — a 16th-place run and a second-place finish most recently, just a day ago. Over four races, the horse has won once and finished in the frame twice more, giving it a 25 per cent win rate overall — respectable for a youngster still learning the game. The pattern suggests Kentucky Rain has the ability to compete but is still inconsistent, capable of a strong run one day and struggling to find form the next. At this early stage of its career, with just four races under its belt, there is plenty of room for improvement. The recent second-place finish shows the horse can get close, and being actively raced suggests the trainer believes there is more to come.
