Keep It Together

Those dashes in the recent form — races where it did not finish — are perhaps the most telling detail of all. A horse finishing tenth is at least getting round; a horse that keeps failing to complete is a horse with problems that go beyond simply being outpaced. With a win rate of exactly zero from ten attempts, Keep It Together has never once reached the winner's enclosure, which at this stage of a career begins to look less like a rough patch and more like a ceiling.

Still, it raced just yesterday, which means the team clearly has not given up. Whether that persistence is optimism or necessity is hard to say, but Keep It Together remains in training and remains on the track. Sometimes that is worth something in itself.
