The recent form figures don't offer much encouragement either — finishes of 14th, 11th, 7th, and 8th in its last six outings suggest a horse that is consistently midfield or worse, rather than one knocking on the door and unlucky not to win. The dashes in that sequence indicate non-completions, which add another layer of concern. At four years old, there is still time to turn things around, but the window isn't unlimited.
Kayamite is trained by Chris Timmons out of Drumree in County Meath, a yard that has sent out five winners already this season — so the operation clearly knows how to get horses to the line first. The question is whether Timmons can find the right race at the right time to finally unlock something in this horse. Sometimes it takes a change of conditions, a drop in class, or simply a smaller field for a horse like this to get its head in front for the first time. For now, Kayamite remains one of racing's works in progress — and having raced just yesterday, the team clearly hasn't given up on finding that moment.
