What keeps the profile interesting is who is doing the training. Joseph Patrick O'Brien, based at Owning Hill in County Kilkenny, has sent out 154 winners already this season — a remarkable output that puts the yard among the most productive in Ireland. A trainer operating at that level clearly has horses capable of winning, and plenty of them. Kakori, for now, is not among that group, but being part of a yard firing at that rate at least means the horse is in the right hands if improvement is coming. The team will know better than anyone whether there is a race to be won somewhere down the line, or whether this is simply a horse that finds ways to be competitive without ever quite getting there.

With the horse having raced just one day ago, there is no waiting around — Kakori is very much active and in training. Whether the next run brings a different result remains to be seen, but on the evidence so far, supporters will need some patience.
