Just Over Land

Thomas himself flagged early on that the penny had taken a while to drop with this horse — and that is a phrase worth pausing on. Some horses need time, a wind operation, or simply the right conditions before they start running to their ability. Just Over Land apparently needed all of the above. The trainer noted a wind op had helped, and the results since have backed that up. He is also a full brother to Good Risk At All, which gives the yard reason for optimism about what the horse might yet be capable of.

The conditions matter here too. On wet or muddy ground, Just Over Land has won 2 of 9 races — a 22% win rate, which is comfortably better than his overall record. In other words, when the weather turns and the ground gets soft, this horse becomes noticeably more dangerous. His most recent win came at Chepstow in December 2025, and his career got going at Lingfield back in February 2024. Both tracks, both wins, on ground that suits him.

One curiosity in the record is his partnership with Sam Twiston-Davies. The jockey has ridden him 11 times without a single win together — yet the horse has clearly won races, so those victories have come with other riders up. Whether that changes going forward is one of the small subplots worth watching. Thomas's yard has been in good form this season with 23 winners, and Just Over Land raced just yesterday, so he is very much in active campaign. With soft ground never too far away and a horse apparently finding his confidence, the next few months could be well worth following.
