Just Dottie

The horse's recent form tells a story of decline. She hasn't won in her last six races, and her last victory came at Ayr on 19 September 2025, nearly a year ago. After that long spell without a win, she returned with a seventh-place finish at Perth, which looked unpromising on paper. But the trainer spotted something in the commentary that others missed: she was running well enough to suggest she still had ability left. When the jockey Ben Smith got the ride alongside the trainer's guidance on racing conditions and pace tactics, Just Dottie found her way back to the winner's enclosure at Perth, suggesting she still has races left in her at the right track.

Smith, who has ridden her twice successfully, remains her most effective partner, winning one in three races together. The yard, based at Galston in East Ayrshire and hitting form with 25 winners this season, clearly knows how to get the best from this honest campaigner. She typically races in Class 5 competitions, where she wins about one in every three or four races—solid statistics for a horse at that level. At eight years old and currently active, Just Dottie remains a valuable tool in the trainer's arsenal, particularly when the ground softens and Perth's gates open.
